GUL began as a necessity—born on raw Atlantic coastlines, where cold water meets colder determination. In 1967, on the rugged beaches of Cornwall, a young surfer named Dennis Cross refused to let the elements win. There were no rules, no roadmaps, no gear built for the life we wanted. So he made his own. The first purpose‑built surfing wetsuit wasn’t crafted in a lab; it was forged on windswept cliffs, tested in pounding swell, and refined by those who lived for the water.

We weren’t following a movement—we were starting one. Cold mornings, numb hands, stitched‑up suits, and a belief that if the sea was our playground, our equipment should keep up. For over fifty‑five years, that same spirit has driven us: innovators, adventurers, misfits, and makers who never feared the unknown. We learned by doing, by breaking, by rebuilding. Every seam, every panel, every product came from a stubborn refusal to settle for “good enough.”

From surfers to sailors, from weekend riders to world‑class athletes, our family grew across coasts, harbours, and breakpoints. Riders who pushed us, challenged us, and shared our obsession for performance and progression. They trusted us—because we never stopped trusting the craft.

We honour where we came from—a small corner of Cornwall, a garage, a wetsuit—and look toward what’s next with the same rebellious energy that sparked it all. Because progression doesn’t stand still. Neither do we.
